HEIDI MORGAN

PHILOSOPHY: When photographing subjects and images, I like to see, depict and explore the lens at different angles. I try to have the cameras depiction invoke in the viewer different feelings and emotions.  Photography is my passion. Shooting different images brings out my best feelings and thoughts.  It enables me to bring life to a shot.

I like straight hands on photography.  It gives me more freedom to try different points of view and make use of the cameras full potential.  This method also provides me with more opportunities to explore the artistic side of my personality and produce an image that has its own essence.

Adobe is another angle I like to explore when I can apply various filters to achieve an acid trip kind of feeling.  In this way, one can see more of what is in the image than just the image itself.  It helps you to see that there was more in the shot than you originally saw.  This application gives the picture a fuller life.  By applying different filters to an original exposure, I can expand the horizons of an individual photograph giving it a fuller depth and depiction.

My favorite subjects are fireworks, mushrooms, odd shaped trees, various shaped clouds, and landscapes.  I like using texture to bring more in to a shot and thus getting more out of it.

GOALS/OBJECTIVES In the coming months, I will be continuing my work on a series of photographs that examine and explore women and fertility. Another goal is to get to the level of photographer Bili Mason achieves when she photographs people. She captures the essence and souls of people. Further more I am looking forward to more exhibits to bring to the viewer my particular photography perspective.

PITMAN STREET GALLERY

Photographs by Heidi Morgan, December 2 through January 5 at the Pitman Street BankRI branch at 137 Pitman Street in Providence.

HEIDI MORGAN
Heidi Morgan wasn't always a photographer. A Florida resident for much of her life, Morgan moved to Rhode Island in 1994. Here in a state known for its artist population, Morgan felt the call of the creative siren. She had always taken snapshots, recordings of events or places she had been. Now, she started using the camera a bit differently. Morgan was inspired by the many artists whose worked she admired, including friend and photographer Bili Mason.

By day, Morgan works at a real estate firm as an administrative and marketing assistant. The rest of her time she pursues her love of photography and her love of adventure. Although Morgan is afraid of heights, she has dived from planes, climbed rocks and rappelled off cliffs. She has tried her hand at clay pigeon shooting and ice-skating. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and beyond.

This show is in memory of Alan Adair Morgan, her late brother. Alan's love of Birds of Paradise inspired these photographs.

** I am also mentioned in the Providence Journal and the Phoenix. It's fun to see my name in print - for something good!
